I was unable to hear most of the call yesterday. I Was ready to turn in level 2 right as the portal shut down. I have continued my work doing pinning's, my vet to vet volunteer program as well as meeting with all of my state reps locally and going to Harrisburg to talk about we honor veterans and also our specific offering's for veterans care.

Can someone please point me to something that will show me what this program will now entail? No more levels? what about all the hard work I have already completed? I have every  single speech I have done at legions, vfws and other veterans center documented. As well as the educations I have done with staff.

We have been doing orientations with new employees as instructed.

    Hi Matthew and Sara,

Thank you so much for reaching out, and for your incredible dedication to the We Honor Veterans program!

Please note that Office Hours recordings are for internal quality control purposes and are not shared. Content from Wednesday's Caring for Veterans Office Hours session will be featured in our upcoming March webinar, with the recording available afterward.

The WHV webinar in March will walk through the updated structure and requirements in detail, which will help you determine the level that most accurately reflects all the meaningful work you've already done. We'll be sharing full details, including the registration link, very soon, so please stay connected for updates!

For any additional WHV-specific questions, please email us directly at veterans@allianceforcareathome.org.

We Honor Veterans has been a long‑standing, evolving program. As it continues to grow, it's important to stay anchored in its original purpose and understand why refinement is necessary.
In its early years, the program-designed as an integrity‑based initiative-was often used as a hospice marketing strategy. We must ensure that its true intention is never lost: to improve access to and the quality of community‑based hospice care for Veterans, regardless of the funding source.

Every effort within the program, especially staff development, directly contributes to better care for Veterans. That is the "hard work" that truly makes a difference.

Any adjustments to the We Honor Veterans program should be viewed as part of ensuring it continues to fulfill its mission: improving care for Veterans. When the work leads to better access and higher‑quality care, it is never in vain.

This message is not a formal statement on behalf of any organization. It is simply the perspective of a Veteran who has led hospice initiatives and other efforts to support those who served-regardless of the "why."

On behalf of Veterans and hospice leaders committed to their care, thank you.

Agreed with the sentiment of this statement. But going from a free program to a members only platform is where a lot of the questions come into play. I will continue to strive for the best care and access possible. as will our team

Understandably so, it sounds like you have done a lot of work to support staff and community development to better care for Veterans and Families....
I think what you mentioned about conversion to members platform is the opportunity to focus on as that is a differentiator for those that are truly driving the impact to quality of care for Veterans.
In the meantime, I hope that my strategy utilized and not shared, comes across beneficial as it was for me when leveraging WHV program, especially in the early days.
When WHV was first launched, the biggest issue was validating the activities when providers submitted for increased level.
While we hope this will only occur with integrity, the sad truth is, this has become a marketing ploy more than anything.
Based off what you shared and led for the hospice you represent, you have done the work and are proud of that work, which you should be...
My strategy years ago following successful education completed, educate the community & any potential referral source on the WHV program, what is entailed and if any provider walked in talking about WHV, for that to be questioned on "How did that provider achieve progression with WHV Level" as the most important strategy would focus on staff development as that is how we improve quality of care for Veterans.
That strategy led to the opportunity to provide CE Inservice for our referral systems along with that same system reaching out to me years following as the education, challenge and total team buy in to a Veteran centric culture demonstrated why the VA & NHPCO created this program to begin with, especially for the Vietnam era.
