The sources I have seen online state that the 0-8 scoring is based on "Total Non-Hospice Spending" - which does not include any division by number of hospice days.
CMS defines this as
Total Non-Hospice Spending: The sum of non-hospice spending (e.g., apportioned
claim payments for non-hospice claims that occur during a beneficiary's hospice
election) associated with beneficiaries receiving services from a particular hospice.
