    Posted 09-30-2022 11:14 AM

    Good afternoon,

NAHC is sharing a grassroots advocacy opportunity for individuals to lend their support for passage of the Palliative Care & Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA) (S. 4260) by Wednesday, October 19th at 6pm ET. As you know, PCHETA is an important workforce-related bill that would provide funding to increase the supply and training of specialty hospice and palliative care providers of many different types (overview of the bill is HERE).

The Patient Quality of Life Coalition (PQLC) is a DC-based group made up of many different health care organizations that support PCHETA. They help coordinate much of the federal advocacy on this legislation, and NAHC has collaborated with them in the past on these efforts. There is a coordinated and concerted advocacy push kicking off to engage Senators in hopes of garnering more co-sponsors for PCHETA and helping its chances for passage later in the year. PQLC is asking national organizations to share the following info with their members (please see below). Please note that the "ask" is that individuals, not organizations, sign-on. You can of course list your title and organization in the form, but the goal for this particular push is to show broad, individual-based constituency support for PCHETA. Please consider taking a few minutes to fill out this form so your name can be added to the support letters that will go to your Senators.

Don't hesitate to reach out to me at dbaird@nahc.org if you have any questions. THANK YOU!

    PCHETA Senate Constituent Letters:

    DEADLINE: Oct.19, 6 pm ET

    TIMELY REQUEST:

Please help gather state-specific constituent signatures for PCHETA support letters to U.S. Senators by distributing this google sign-on form to all your networks and advocacy groups. All individuals who support PCHETA are welcome to complete the form and sign on to the letters.

DEADLINE for completing the google form: Wednesday, October 19th 6 pm ET

We are asking individuals to sign this letter, not organizations. Multiple individuals from within any one organization, family, or practice are welcome to sign on. The purpose of these letters is to demonstrate to senators that individuals in their states support the bill and request they cosponsor PCHETA. More than 60 organizations support this legislation, but many senators need to hear from their constituents that this issue is important back home.

Here is the full URL for the Google Form which can be pasted into your browser: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfVLBRZ0XY1JVRT2THwqDgP8weuLKMiMfTqCQ2HMrkl66soKw/viewform?usp=sf_link

To demonstrate constituent support for PCHETA we are planning to send state-specific letters to U.S. Senators, individualized based on whether:

    1. they are previous cosponsors who have not yet signed back on to the bill,
    2. they serve on the committee of jurisdiction, and we are asking for their support, or
    3. they are already a supporter of the bill, and we want to thank them for their support.

By completing this sign-on form individuals will be added to the respective letter(s) based on their STATE.

    WHO CAN SIGN:

We are collecting signatures from individuals in all states. However, if your organization wants to take a more targeted approach, we are prioritizing the following states where republican senators have previously supported the bill or serve on the committee with jurisdiction over the bill: AL, ID, IN, KY, LA, ME, NE, NC, ND, OK, SC, TN, UT. Since it may be easier for some organizations to share this google form with everyone rather than a targeted group, we will prepare letters to each senator. However, priority will be given to the aforementioned states.

    MORE ABOUT THESE LETTERS:

More explanation and drafts of the letters can be found in the google form. All signers will be required to provide:

    • Name and credentials exactly as they want reflected on the letter - please include at least FIRST & LAST NAME
    • (optional: Institution / Practice / Etc.)
    • CITY
    • STATE (select from drop-down menu)
    • ZIP CODE

The form requires an email address in case we need to contact the signer with questions about an entry. Individuals who live and work in two or more states can either complete the form multiple times or email Auda with your list of CITIES/STATES/ZIPs for signing on.

Lastly, each entry is asked to use a drop-down menu to select the PQLC member organization with which they are affiliated. Select "other" if none of the organizations apply and add their organization name in the field below the previous entry (This would apply to any individual signers who work at NAHC member organizations - NAHC is not a formal member of PQLC). This will allow us to let you know who from your organization has cosigned various letters.

Anyone needing assistance completing the form or with questions about the letters are asked to please contact:
