Hospice

For hospices located in states where Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) is legal, but the hospice organization does not participate in the MAID process, I'm interested in learning how other organizations are handling the practical aspects of care and documentation.

Specifically:

• Do you enter the MAID/life-ending medication on the patient's MAR, even though the hospice is not prescribing or providing the medication?
• Do you include these medications in your narcotic counts? 
• If unused MAID medication remains in the home after the patient's death, does hospice staff participate in disposal, or is disposal handled by the patient/family or another party?
• Does your hospice notify the prescribing physician when the patient dies?
• How do you document the MAID medication or the patient's decision to pursue MAID in the clinical record?
• Are there specific aspects of the MAID process that you intentionally do not document or include in the hospice record because your organization does not participate in the process?
