  • 1.  Surgery Center/Facility Admission

We are an agency that does a significant amount of Home Care for patients recovering from Joint replacements. Approximately 1/3 of our patients now come from the Same Day Surgery Center. The rest stay overnight at the hospital. Of those SDSC patients, some come home the same day. Others are kept more than 24 hours for an overnight stay. Are those patients who stay more than 24hrs at the surgical Center considered facility or community admissions? How should our clinicians correctly answer M1000?

The SDSC is likely not licensed by the state as any of the specified inpatient facilities listed at M1000, but that should be confirmed by state license (per the OASIS guidance).  If not licensed as one of the specified inpatient facilities and also not licensed as an "other" type of facility by the state, then M1000 would be marked as "NA" and it is a "community" admission.
