Good Morning,
Palmetto sent an update last evening in the RCD mailing group indicating that starting on May 20, 2024 home health agencies will need to begin submitting a "hand off" from any original certifying provider to a subsequent provider. It goes on to say that if a patient has changed attending/signing providers there needs to be a signed hand off from the original physician/provider to the new physician/provider. The two regulations that were referenced in the Palmetto post do not specify this requirement and it is not something I have seen kicked back from post payment reviews in the past. This is not something that we have been doing and I wanted to see if this was common practice in other agnecies? If so do you have any processes or checks you have in place to make sure this documentation is captured? Bonus points if it is in HCHB!
