On August 22, 2022, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that approximately $25 million will be awarded to an additional three states and two territories (up to $5 million each to Illinois, Kansas, New Hampshire, American Samoa and Puerto Rico, respectively) in an effort to expand access to Home- and Community-Based Services (HCBS). Working through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), these planning grants are intended to support the states' and territories' early planning phase for their Money Follows the Person programs, including:
- Establishing partnerships with stakeholders, such as those representing underserved and diverse populations, public housing authorities, community-based organizations, etc.;
- Establishing quality improvement programs for HCBS; as well as,
- Recruiting providers
NAHC will continue to monitor information and will provide updates when available. More about the Money Follows the Person program can be found here.
