  • 1.  Dress code for front line clinicians

    Posted 02-05-2025 06:35 PM

Would anyone be willing to share their dress code for front line clinicians including RN, OT, PT and PTA? There has been a request to move away from scrubs and I wanted to see what others in the home care community are doing.

    Thank you

We do not have scrubs required.  70% of nurses still choose to wear scrubs.  The therapists wear about 30% of the time.  The rest of the time, people wear "professional attire"

. Professional Attire: Given that team members are representatives of SPH, individuals are expected to
wear attire that is professional based on their work place environment and their interactions with
    patients and community.
    a. Advertising/Wording/Slogans: No clothing with slogans or advertising which by its controversial
or obscene nature disrupts the work or patient care setting. Small logos on clothing identifying
brand names are not considered advertising.
    b. Shorts: Team members are prohibited from wearing all types of shorts (jean, cotton, khaki, etc.).
    c. Tops: No tank tops, halter tops, or other tops that leave the midriff or back exposed, and skirts
or other garments that expose undergarments and/or could be perceived as sexually
    provocative to a reasonable person.
    d. Pants: Pants are to be business casual, and must not have rips, stains, tears or similar. Denim
blue jeans may be worn only on designated special event days and when approved by
    department leadership for specific reasons.
    e. Badges: All team members of SPH are required to wear their Identification Badge at all times.
Badges must be worn on one's shirt, blouse or jacket above the waist so that the name and
picture are clearly visible. Nothing should be attached to the identification badge. Pins and
awards should be worn on a lanyard or clothing.
    f. Uniforms: Team members working in areas where uniforms are required should wear a neat
and clean, full uniform at all times. Attire is compatible with personal protective equipment (PPE)
if required for the team member's job duties.
    g. Shoes: In all departments, shoes must be appropriate and professional. Patient Care, Clinical
Areas and Applicable Support Services Departments: Per OSHA standards and Infection
Control guidelines, all team members in patient care areas must wear stockings/socks and no
open-toed shoes or sandals are allowed. Office, Professional and Managerial
Areas/Departments: Stockings/socks are not required. Open-toed shoes or sandals are allowed
with well-groomed feet. Flip-flops are not permitted.
    h. Jewelry and Pins: Jewelry and pins with sharp edges, or accessories that pose a potential
safety hazard to staff or patients are prohibited. Examples include jewelry that may get caught in
equipment. Only professional pins and SPH services pins may be worn.
