I am looking for clarification on the need for a discharge order in the event of a patient death. We previously had a long-time QA nurse that said a discharge order was not necessary in that case "because you can't order a person to die." I haven't been able to find guidance that addresses that scenario, but it seems like we would write an order that said something like "Discharged from all Home Health services secondary to patient death."
Any suggestions? Thank you.
