Scenario: Patient is recertified, but ends up being discharged several days into the new cert period with no visits having been made in the new cert period,.
Question: Is an OASIS Discharge required?
Per CMS guidance, an OASIS discharge is required when a patient is discharged from the agency for any reason other than transfer to inpatient facility, death at home, or when only a single visit is made in a quality episode. However, a quality episode is from SOC/ROC to TIF/DC, and doesn't include recert. So, is a DC OASIS required in this situation, even though it would be identical to the recert OASIS?
This is an unusual situation for our agency, so interested in how others handle this.
Thank you.
