    Hello Community,

    We recently underwent a TJC survey, back in March, and it was suggested that we update the 'official' referral date if a patient requests a delay. For example: if a referral is received on 1/28/26, but the patient requests a visit date of 2/1/26 (outside the 48-hour window), we were told the referral date should be adjusted to 2/1/26 to reflect that request.

    Does your organization currently practice this? Furthermore, is anyone aware of a specific regulation or CoP that mandates changing the initial referral date versus simply documenting the patient's preference as the reason for the delay? I'm looking to ensure our workflow remains compliant without losing the original data. Thanks in advance!
