Home Heath

Hello,

It has been our practice to discharge a home health client when they begin Cardiac Rehab, with the rationale that it is a duplication of services because cardiac rehab bills as Outpatient, and also that it is difficult to document Homebound status if they are truly able to attend Cardiac rehab 2-3x/week.

I have received new information recently indicating that the billing may no longer be an issue. I still have concerns about Homebound status.

What are other agencies doing? Have there been recent changes related to this?

There were some changes to cardiac rehab supervision requirements, clarification of the role of non-physician practitioners, and telehealth expansion (physician office-based programs only).  These changes may provide an opportunity for more individuals receiving home health to also receive cardiac rehab.  We are not aware of any changes that make billing easier.  From a home health perspective, the patient still needs to meet all the same home health coverage criteria.   Hope this is helpful.
